The South Africa Revenue Service (SARS) has announced that 18 of tax branches will not be in operation on Tuesday as its staff embark on a wage strike.

As a result of the staff’s pay strike, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced that 18 tax branches will be closed on Tuesday.

SARS issued a statement that read: “(We) apologise for any inconvenience caused however we are facing delays in servicing our taxpayers owing to Industrial Action taking place across SARS.”

During this time, the revenue collector encouraged the general public to keep using its digital services.

When labor and the employer were unable to come to a pay deal, SARS employees went on strike for the first time in May.

Unions reportedly turned down a 1.39 percent wage raise that was offered.

SARS said in May that it lacked the necessary resources to meet the labor demand equal to CPI plus 7%.
