In their Challenge Cup encounter against Stade Francais, assistant coach Ricardo Loubscher believes that the Lions must diversify their offensive plays.

In their Challenge Cup debut at Ellis Park, they defeated the Parisian team 30-12. Since then, however, the Lions have been on a downhill spiral.

The Lions are out of form, which is a result of both weak defense and poor offense. The men from Johannesburg have conceded 15 tries in their last three encounters, while scoring only two themselves.

Loubscher addressed the media during a press conference in Paris prior to the return match against Stade and highlighted the team’s offensive woes. He is sure that the Lions will need to attack aggressively in order to possibly win this match.

Loubscher, when asked about the attack, stated, “We need a solid attacking base from our set pieces.”

“If you look at the teams that employ the rush defense, you’ll notice that they tackle our ballcarriers behind the gain line.

This is one of the topics we’ve addressed, and we’ve been working on it this week.

“We are working on our ball carries, getting the quick ball, and making good decisions and being more clinical once we get behind the opposing team.”

The Lions enjoy their Challenge Cup adventures.

“This has been our goal for the past two days — that final pass, that final move, locating and exploiting space.

“Our attack is somewhat stagnant, particularly in terms of our shape off nine and ten.” Ahead of their Challenge Cup match, the Lions head coach remarked that the other sides are “clever” and “a little bit smarter” here.

“They tackle you behind the gain line, so our solution is to be slightly more mobile. Two days ago, we began addressing the problem with small-sided games.

“We desire that our forwards be in motion. We must relocate the point of contact. Previously, our attack lacked a great deal of variety. This will be our priority heading into the Stade Francais match.”
