When the woman released videos of the dead shark she had bought, cooked, and consumed on camera, it sparked outrage and prompted a police inquiry.

A well-known food blogger who cooked and consumed a great white shark and received criticism from all over the world believes she was “really duped.”

Chinese blogger Tizi Jin, who has more than seven million followers, is known for consuming unusual cuisine.

She was fined £15,000 following a government probe last year for eating a shark, which is a protected species under Chinese wildlife rules, as seen in a recent video.

She disappeared after her forbidden lunch for seven months before making a triumphant comeback last month.

She said she had been duped by a seafood vendor who insisted it was not a protected species and claimed he sold dozens of them every day in fresh posts posted to Chinese video-sharing websites Kuaishou and Douyin.

Jin claims that because she had previously purchased items from the man, she trusted his word.

According to Jin, who resides in the southwest region of Sichuan, “certain species of sharks could be eaten legally and that was what I understood when I made the movie.”

“I felt really duped,”

In China, where contentious foods like shark fin soup are still widely consumed, the sale and consumption of sharks that are not listed as endangered are lawful.

She presented the shark she had paid 7,700 yuan (£925) for in the four-minute video that was published in July before cutting it into two pieces and preparing them in various ways.

The second half was marinated and grilled over a fire while the first half was cooked by boiling the meat in beer and chili.

She then gushed about how tasty the shark was to her fans.

Authorities detained her and two men involved in the selling of the shark after the video became popular and before sharp-eyed specialists realized the shark was a protected species in China.
