Her former chef says the Queen has eaten a jam sandwich every day since she was 5

The Queen has consumed a jam sandwich daily since she was five years old, according to her former private chef.

Darren McGrady served as the personal chef of Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana, and Princes William and Harry for fifteen years.

Mr. McGrady uploaded a video to his 226,000-subscriber YouTube channel detailing how to recreate a royal afternoon tea at home and the varieties of sandwiches available at Buckingham Palace.

The chef, who has served at the castle since he was a little lad, described the 6,000-person garden parties that would be held there.

However, the royal chefs were only required to prepare food for the royal tea tent, and there was one sandwich that was constantly on the menu.

Mr. McGrady stated that this delicacy was the “jam penny,” which the Queen was offered as a child and has consumed at Afternoon Tea ever since.

The classic dish, according to him, consisted of “simply bread and jam with a little butter, typically strawberry jam.”

We’d make jam at Balmoral Castle using beautiful Scottish strawberries from the gardens.

Then, in the video, he sandwiched the jam and butter slices and sliced them into circles, stating, “They were dubbed pennies due to their size, which was based on the old English penny.”

Other popular sandwich fillings for afternoon tea included tomato and cheese and cucumber with mint cream cheese. In the comments, one viewer remarked, “It’s strange that when I was in school in England, those who ate jam sandwiches were considered poor!”

“And here I am learning that the Queen consumes them; I wish I could show this to the bullies, hehe!”
