The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) is currently hosting the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region Budget Committee Meeting

The African Region Budget Committee Meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) is now taking place in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL).

The group, which arrived in Gauteng on Sunday for the three-day summit, is made up of lawmakers from seven different African nations, including Nontembeko Boyce, Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Parliament.

Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, the Bomo State of Nigeria, and Botswana are among the nations represented at the gathering.

Ntombi Mekgwe, Speaker of the Gauteng Legislature, was chosen in 2021 to serve as Treasurer of the CPA Africa Region, a post she would hold through 2024.

The Treasurer is in charge of overseeing the Region’s finances, which she does through the Budget Committee and the Sub-Committee on Program Planning and Finance.

The following will be taken into consideration in the most recent Budget Committee Meeting:

Review the yearly plan and see whether it is consistent with the goals of the region; where appropriate, review the current policies to determine whether they are still relevant in light of the changing environment;

Examine the planned itemized activities to determine whether they are appropriate given the projected volume of operations in the budget and whether the resources requested are appropriate for and compatible with the activities of the Secretariat’s departments; send the Executive Committee a budget recommendation.

The Mid-Year Financial Performance Report for the period ending June 30, 2022, is an essential item on the agenda for the meeting.

The diligence, accuracy, and timeliness with which this is carried out greatly supports the mission of the CPA Africa Region, which is to advance and safeguard the views and interests of the Commonwealth Parliaments and member countries of the region as well as to support gender equality and good governance.

The delegates will go to the Hector Peterson Memorial and have a tour of the Mandela Museum in accordance with the repositioning and re-purposing of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL).

The Gauteng Legislature issued a statement in which it stated that “the Constitution of South Africa invites us to recognize the injustices of our history, Honor those who struggled for Justice and Freedom in our Land and Respect those who have worked to Build and Develop Our Country.”

Similarly, the GPL’s objective is to create a strong and capable legislative with the ability to carry out its constitutional responsibility.

Its vision is to be a progressive legislature that encourages faith in democracy and raises the quality of life for Gauteng residents.

The Legislature stated that the tour to these two locations was made in order to fulfil this constitutional requirement and to position the Gauteng legislature at the forefront of legislative sector changes.
