Amos Masondo, the chair of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), is heading a distinguished team of MPs to the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), which will be held in Halifax, Canada, from August 22 to 26, 2022.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference is an annual platform for members of Commonwealth parliaments and legislatures to discuss advancements in the parliamentary system and global political challenges.

The conference, which brings together close to 500 Commonwealth parliamentarians and delegates from 126 national and sub-national legislatures representing 42 Commonwealth nations, is being hosted by the Canada Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

“Inclusive, Accessible, Accountable and Strong Parliaments: the Cornerstone of Democracy and Essential for Development” will be the subject of the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference.

Several conferences and meetings, including CPC workshops, the 38th CPA Small Branches Conference, the 7th Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Conference, the 65th CPA General Assembly, and meetings of the CPA Executive Committee Society of Clerks at the Table (SoCATT), according to parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo, will be attended by the delegation.

The delegation will take part in the conference-held elections for the CPA Treasurer, the CPA Small Branches Chairperson, the CPA Executive Committee Chairperson, and the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Chairperson for fresh terms of office, according to Mothapo.

Winnie Ngwenya, a member of the Commonwealth Women’s Parliament, Phoebe Noxolo Abraham, Dikeledi Gladys Mahlangu, as well as Siviwe Gwarube, a member of the Democratic Alliance, make up the high-level delegation.
