The Chiefs have received a boost ahead of their New Year’s Eve match

The 2022/23 DStv Premiership season resumed on Friday, 30 December after a hiatus for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and Kaizer Chiefs will return to action on Saturday with high expectations.

Arthur Zwane, the head coach of Amakhosi, spoke with www.kaizerchiefs.com prior to the team’s departure to Durban for the match against Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida stadium, starting off at 15:30.

Notably, Zwane stated that the teenaged Mduduzi Shabalala was in the running, alluding to the possibility of a few unexpected selections.

“We have a few obstacles here and there, but for me, there are no challenges because we are coaches and we have players, and we believe they are capable of playing for a side of the caliber of Kaizer Chiefs.

“It is a matter of adapting for them in terms of the strain. We are pleased Mduduzi (Shabalala) is available. Wandile Duba and Samkelo Zwane are also in the running, so it is up to us, as the technical staff, to determine who we believe is ready to start or make an impact off the bench.

Mamelodi Sundowns increased their lead atop the standings with a 2-0 victory over Orlando Pirates on Friday. Midfielders Mothobi Mvala (41st minute) and Cassius Mailula scored for Mamelodi Sundowns (63rd minute).

Masandawana’s lead over second-placed SuperSport United, who defeated Marumo Gallants 1-0, has increased to seven points.

After losing 2-1 to TS Galaxy, Maritzburg United remained the last-place team on the standings.

In Friday’s other two fixtures, Cape Town City FC scored a late victory to defeat Royal AM 2-1, while Chippa United held Stellenbosch United to a 1-1 draw at home.
