Russell and Hamilton are the 2023 contracted drivers.

After signing a two-year deal during the 2021 season, Hamilton is under contract through the 2023 season. Russell, in in his debut season with Mercedes, is under contract through 2024.

According to F1TV, an intriguing rumor circulating in the garages is that Daniel Ricciardo may join Mercedes as a reserve driver for the upcoming season.

2023 drivers under contract: Ocon, Pierre Gasly

We know that Ocon’s contract with Alpine extends through the 2024 season. Alonso revealed that he will replace the retiring Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin in 2023.

Alpine stated in Japan that Pierre Gasly will receive its second seat after buying out his contract with AlphaTauri. Thus, the French squad now has two French drivers.

Alpine and McLaren both claimed to have Oscar Piastri under contract for next season prior to signing Gasly, but F1 officials sided with McLaren. Sky Sports reports that Alpine may have missed the deadline to activate a clause that would have extended his contract through 2023.

Initial speculations suggested that Alpine and Daniel Ricciardo will exchange drivers indirectly. Also suggested were Mick Schumacher and Alpine junior driver Jack Doohan.

Norris inked a contract deal this year that will keep him with McLaren until at least 2025.

The anticipated divorce between Ricciardo and McLaren became official during the summer break, allowing Oscar Piastri to take Ricciardo’s seat after F1 officials concluded that McLaren’s contract was legal.

In Japan, Ricciardo announced that he will not compete in Formula One next season, but will return in 2024. According to F1TV, a rumor in the garage area suggests that Ricciardo may join Mercedes as a reserve driver for the upcoming season.

What we know: During the summer break, Aston Martin confirmed that two-time F1 champion Fernando Alonso will replace the retiring Sebastian Vettel next season on a multiyear contract. Lance Stroll is under contract through 2023, and as long as his father continues to pay the bills, he will remain with the organization after that date.

Current championship standings for the 2022 lineup: Kevin Magnussen (14), Mick Schumacher (16)

2023 drivers under contract: Magnussen

Magnussen is under contract through the 2023 season, having joined with the team on the eve of Nikita Mazepin’s replacement. Schumacher is unsigned for the next season.

Guenther Steiner, the team principal of Haas, stated that the team would decide Schumacher’s future during the summer break. The German news agency RTL, however, stated that Steiner terminated negotiations with Schumacher.

Due to Aston Martin’s selection of Fernando Alonso over Michael Schumacher — Sebastian Vettel’s preferred replacement — the young driver is in danger of being eliminated from Formula One in 2023. Nevertheless, his recent performance has improved his standing with the team, and according to Lawrence Barretto, Schumacher now has a chance to stay with Haas.

Barretto stated earlier in the season that former Formula One drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Antonio Giovinazzi “are in the running.” He now hears that Hulkenberg is the most likely choice if the team decides to part ways with Schumacher. Hulkenberg is presently the reserve driver for Aston Martin.

9. AlphaTauri

What we know is that Tsunoda signed a contract extension recently and will remain with the squad through 2023.

Before the Japanese Grand Prix, the team revealed Pierre Gasly’s move to Alpine and named former F2 and Formula E champion Nyck de Vries as his replacement.

Current standings for the 2022 championship: Alex Albon (19), Nicholas Latifi (20)

2023 drivers under contract: Albon

Albon has inked a multi-year contract deal to continue with the squad, as expected, according to Williams. The team also confirmed that Latifi will not return for the upcoming season. His performance in qualifying and the race at the Italian Grand Prix—behind substitute driver Nyck de Vries, who was subbing for Albon—certainly sealed his fate, if it had not already been determined.

After his impressive performance at Monza, De Vries appeared to be the frontrunner to replace Latifi, but he selected AlphaTauri instead.

The backup plan appears to be the American Logan Sargeant, who is ranked third in F2 and is a member of the Williams Driver Academy. However, Mick Schumacher has emerged as a potential contender, with team principal Jost Capito acknowledging that the Haas driver is a possibility and stating that he deserves to remain in Formula 1.

This may relegate Sargeant to Plan C. To have any chance of earning his Super License, he must finish at least fifth in the final two F2 races of the season.
