Temba Bavuma is ultimately picked up by Sunrisers in the SA20

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape have confirmed Temba Bavuma’s signing for the remainder of the SA20 season.

Bavuma was initially overlooked during the many player auctions for the maiden season of the exciting new domestic T20 league.

The main reason for his glaring absence from the competition was his dismal performance in recent months. Despite not being selected for any SA20 team, the national selectors maintained their confidence in Bavuma as the Proteas captain.

And Bavuma rewarded that faith on Sunday when he scored a sensational century in the second One-Day International against England to lead the Proteas to a historic series triumph. England won the third and final ODI on Wednesday, but it was of little consequence because South Africa had already won the first two.

Bavuma has been invited to join the Sunrisers Eastern Cape ahead of the second part of the South Africa Twenty20 season.

Thursday afternoon, one day before their match against the Durban Super Giants at Kingsmead on Friday afternoon, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape confirmed via their social media outlets the acquisition of Bavuma.

“Our Sunrisers Eastern Cape family has just grown,” the team said on its official social media sites.

Temba Bavuma has joined the Sunrisers for the rest of the season.

The Eastern Cape Sunrises are currently in second place in the SA20 standings, trailing the Pretoria Capitals.

The Paarl Royals are in third place on the table, followed by the Joburg Super Kings in fourth, MI Cape Town in fifth, and the Durban Super Giants in sixth.

Aaron Phangiso is prohibited from bowling in SA20.
