Teen is killed by car hijackers in Michigan

In Battle Creek, Michigan, a 17-year-old honour student named Jack Snyder was fatally shot after offering a ride home from a birthday party to two boys, aged 14 and 13, who attempted to carjack him.

Snyder’s body was found beside his car at around 12:10 a.m. on January 17, and despite efforts from EMTs and medical personnel, he was declared dead at the scene.

One suspect, Justice Chimner, was arrested on January 19, and the other turned himself in.

Police recovered a gun at the scene but could not determine which boy fired the shot.

Chimner has been charged with felony murder, carjacking, and weapons-related violations, while the 13-year-old has been charged with murder.

The suspects were unknown to Snyder and had a prior history with law enforcement.

Snyder’s family praised local authorities for their swift response, and a vigil was held in his honour.

Snyder was an accomplished student-athlete, enrolled in an EMT program, and a member of the National Honor Society.

His family has received an outpouring of support, with several fundraising efforts organized in his name.
