Teacher on Trial for Stabbing Cheating Boyfriend Claims Voices Urged Her to Stand Up for Herself

In a Northampton Crown Court trial, Fiona Beal, a primary school teacher, is accused of murdering her boyfriend, Nicholas Billingham, by luring him to bed before stabbing him in the neck and burying his body in the garden.

According to a report, Beal told medics during a psychiatric assessment that a voice in her head had urged her to “stand up for herself” before she killed her boyfriend.

She was sectioned under the Mental Health Act after police found her with superficial self-inflicted wounds in a bath in a lodge in Windermere on March 15, 2022.

Chilling Diary and Confession

Beal was found with a chilling notebook detailing how she had been driven to kill an unnamed person and blamed her dark alter-ego Tulip22, who was “reckless, fearless, and efficient.”

She wrote about the struggle to move the body, which was “much more difficult than on TV,” and made reference to the 1991 film Thelma and Louise.

The court heard that Beal carried out the attack on November 1, 2021, after fearing her partner of 17 years had been cheating on her again. The discovery of the journals and body led to Beal’s arrest in March last year.

Police Bodycam Footage

During the trial’s second day, jurors watched police bodycam footage of Beal being discovered motionless in a bath in the lodge she was renting in the Lake District.

The officer who found her described the music playing from her mobile phone as “sinister” and thought she was dead. The footage also showed Beal sobbing and saying, “Leave me alone” and “I don’t want to live.”

Testimonies of Police Officers

Two police officers also gave evidence during the trial. PC Josh Bromley, who was present at Beal’s psychiatric assessment, overheard her say that a voice in her head told her to stand up for herself.

PC Benjamin Lawson guarded Beal in the hospital after doctors alerted him to a blue book that contained graphic information regarding a death. He described Beal as “a shadow of the person I met that day” and said there was no meaningful interaction between them.

Murder Trial Continues

Although Beal admits to unlawfully killing Nicholas, she denies murder due to her state of mind at the time. The trial continues, and the prosecution claims that Beal’s “true cunning, cruel, deceptive, and devious nature” is evident in the messages she sent to family and friends pretending that Nicholas was alive but had Covid.
