Swedish former racing driver Slim Borgudd and drummer for supergroup Abba dies

‘ Slim’ Borgudd, a former Formula One star and truck racing champion, has passed away at the age of 76 after a long illness. Borgudd, whose full name was Karl Edward Tommy Borgudd, was not only a successful racing driver but also a talented drummer who played with the music legends Abba.

He started out in jazz-rock bands in Sweden and later combined his passions for driving and drumming. Abba founding member Björn Ulvaeus, who was a close friend of Borgudd, helped sponsor his F1 dream in 1981, allowing him to drive for the ATS team with the band’s name on his car.

Borgudd spent two seasons in F1, earning a World Championship point in his debut year, before moving on to become a European truck racing champion. Tributes have been pouring in for Borgudd, who was able to achieve success in two vastly different industries.
