Sultan of Sokoto Declares May 2 as Eid-Al-fitr 

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has accepted the report of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs Sultanate Council and accordingly declared Monday May 2nd, 2022 as Eid-al-fitr.

The Sultan also declared May 1, 2022 as Ramadan 1443 AH.
The development was contained in a statement by the Chairman Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs Sultanate Council and Waziri of Sokoto, Professor Sambo Junaid.

According to the statement, the committee in conjunction with National Moon Committee has not received any report of sighting the crescent month of Shawwal 1443 AH across the country.

“The two committees recey any information from various moon sighting committees across the nation on Saturday 30th April, 2022 which was the 29th day of Ramadan 1443 AH.

“Therefore, Sunday May 1, 2022 is the 30th day of Ramadan 1443 AH.
“The Sultan has accepted the report of the committee and accordingly declared Monday May 2nd, 2022 as Eid-al-fitr,” it said.

It added that the Sultan felicitates with Nigerian Muslim on the occasion of Eid-Al-fitr and call for more prayers for Allah’s guidance and acceptance of all the ibadat observed in the month of Ramadan.

Sultan Sa’ad urged Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-al-fitr to continue to pray for peace and development of the country especially at this moment that the nation is approaching forthcoming 2023 general elections.
