Straphanger in New York City cut in random lunchtime attack: police

This week, a straphanger was randomly attacked in the afternoon at a Midtown rail stop, according to police.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., the 37-year-old victim was standing on the northbound platform at the Fifth Avenue/53rd Street station. Tuesday, a stranger approached the victim and cut him multiple times with a pocket knife, according to authorities.

Authorities said the victim declined medical assistance for minor cuts to his head and right leg.

The male suspect escaped the police station and went into the street. It is unknown whether he spoke throughout the attack.

A photograph posted late Thursday night depicts the assailant with a beard wearing a black vest over a bright yellow hoodie.

Friday, he was still being sought.
