Stacey Abrams links abortion rights to economic issues

In a television interview on Wednesday morning, Democratic candidate for governor of Georgia Stacey Abrams maintained that abortion rights and current economic difficulties are connected.

Her detractors quickly charged the leftist advocate for voting rights of advocating abortion as a strategy to combat the nation’s out-of-control inflation.

On Morning Joe on MSNBC, she was questioned: What could you do as governor to allay the worries of Georgia voters about the everyday, daily, hourly problems that they’re faced with? While abortion is a topic, it is nothing near as interesting to people as the price of gas, food, bread, milk, and things like that.

Abrams shifted the topic back to abortion rights, arguing that having children or not is a decision that has both financial and reproductive implications.

The Georgia Democrat said, “Let’s be clear – having children is why you’re concerned about your price for petrol and it’s why you’re worried about how much food costs.”

“This is not a reductive problem for women.” You cannot separate the financial reality of having a kid with being compelled to carry an undesired pregnancy.

Voters all throughout the country are expressing fury and resistance to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June, giving Democrats fresh hope in an otherwise gloomy picture for the November midterm elections.

Since that time, abortion is prohibited in 12 states. The so-called “Heartbeat Law” in Georgia now forbids the treatment beyond six weeks.

We don’t have the luxury of diminishing them or splitting them out, Abrams said, adding that this is a both/and discussion.

Women, who make up half of the population and are of childbearing age, are aware that having a kid is unquestionably a financial concern.

Politicians are the only ones who see it as just another cultural discussion, she said. Women need to have this talk because it is both biologically and economically necessary.

She also made a list of ways a governor may address growing family expenses while criticizing her rival, Republican Governor Brian Kemp.

A governor might influence housing costs. The expense of education may be addressed by the governor. Instead of delivering tax breaks to the wealthiest, a governor should put money in the wallets of Georgians who work hard every day, according to Abrams.
