South Australia’s Pizza Hut shuts down permanently after four decades

After more than four decades, South Australia’s only dine-in Pizza Hut will close its doors, marking the ‘end of an era’ for locals.

‘It is with great sadness that we must announce that our Marion Pizza Hut restaurant will be permanently closing from Tuesday June 28th,’ Pizza Hut Marion, in Oaklands Park in Adelaide’s south, told its faithful customers on Facebook on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, due to long-term plans to renovate the site, we have had to make the difficult choice to close the business after 44 years.

‘We wanted to express our gratitude to every previous employee as well as all of our customers for their continued support.’

The popular restaurant is known for serving unlimited pizza and pasta to dine-in patrons, as well as a salad bar, desserts, and bottomless soft drinks.

Over 3,000 people expressed their disbelief at the announcement, while others used the chance to reminisce about Pizza Hut.
‘I’ve always adored Pizza Hut and have done so for a very long time. I’ve had more visits than I can recall. One person wrote, ‘A part of South Australia is so recalled.’

‘It’s the end of an era.’ ‘Had a lot of birthday parties here, as well as a school expedition where we made our own pizza,’ a second added.
‘I drank my first ‘legal’ alcoholic drink at Marion Pizza Hut.’ ‘On my 18th birthday, I was brought out to lunch here,’ remarked a third.

‘Absolutely catastrophic! I have so many fond recollections from my childhood. A fourth said, ‘The last all-you-can-eat Pizza Hut.’
‘As a child from a large family, this was the only restaurant I ever got to visit.’ ‘Oh, those red and white checked tablecloths,’ someone else commented.

‘Whenever my son visits Adelaide from Whyalla, we make a point of going there and placing bets on the color of the jelly… Pizza Hut All You Can Eat will be missed! ‘It’s a very sad time,’ said another commenter.

Pizza Hut fans will be pleased to learn that the classic buffet experience is still available at 12 dine-in locations in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, and Tasmania.
