South African student kills another during fight at KZN school

During a quarrel at Siphesihle Secondary School on Thursday, a 17-year-old pupil was stabbed to death by another learner.
According to Reaction Unit SA (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram the boy was declared dead at arrival at the clinic.
“A high school student was killed after he was stabbed in the chest in Trenance Park.”
Balram said members of RUSA were called out by educators to Siphesihle Secondary School at approximately 11:21 requesting assistance for the critically injured learner.
“On arrival, RUSA Officers were informed that the critically injured student was transported privately to a local clinic where he was declared deceased on arrival.”
He furthermore said it is believed the attacker is believed to be another pupil of the school; however, he has not been identified at this stage.
KZN Department of Education spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa said district officials had been sent to the schools to establish what transpired.

“As a Department, we strongly condemn it. We are going to act, working with the police and all other law enforcement, and take strong action against any perpetrators or anyone who injures or harms our learners.”

He said the Department was shocked to learn about the incident.
“We send out condolence to the friends and family of the learner.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said no arrests had been made yet.

“It is alleged that today at 12:00, a group of learners was fighting inside the school in Trenance Park.
During the fight, a 17-year-old male was stabbed on the left side of the chest. He was taken to a local clinic, where he was declared dead upon arrival. A case of murder is being investigated by Verulam SAPS,” Gwala said.
