On Sunday, both teams will compete in their last Group B match. Coach Jerry Tshabalala anticipates a difficult matchup against TP Mazembe of the Congo.
The Congolese debutants began the continent’s best women’s event with a 1-0 victory over Egypt’s Wadi Degla before losing 2-0 to Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens in their second group match.
With qualification from Group B still a possibility for all four teams, Kappa expects TP Mazembe to attempt an upset.
“The group is wide open, and each side will strive for maximum points to advance to the elimination round. We are acutely conscious of the magnitude of the stakes, and we are up against a side that has displayed remarkable grit in their tournament debut. We anticipate a very difficult matchup and will be prepared to leave it all on the field, Coach Jerry said.
Regarding what to expect from TP Mazembe, Kappa remarked, “They are a quick squad with quality wingers who can stretch teams. Therefore, we must be vigilant with our pushing across the field and ready to capitalize on our opportunities when they present themselves. They also have a quality goalkeeper, so we must be clinical in the correct locations to increase our chances of advancing to the knockout round.”
Additionally, Captain Zanele Nhlapho believes that the team is psychologically prepared for the match against the Congolese.
We do not underestimate any team in Morocco due to the unpredictability of the sport and the fact that we have witnessed some excellent football thus far. The entire squad has been diligently preparing for the match against TP Mazembe, where we intend to assert our dominance. We are hopeful about our chances against them as a result of our hard work and determination,” Zanele said.
The match between Sundowns Ladies and TP Mazembe of Congo will take place at Stade de Marrakech on November 6th. The match is scheduled to begin at 21h00 (SAST).
