Seattle Parks & Recreation has finished replacing the turf on Georgetown Playfield.

The Georgetown Playfield is now open, and Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is pleased to inform that the project to replace the synthetic grass is finished. There are now soccer and ultimate frisbee markers on the remodeled pitch. The field also has markings for kickball, softball, and baseball games in the southeast corner. All are playable without bases being inserted.

Orange fence has been installed around hydroseeded areas to give the natural grass time to take hold. The field, play area, tennis court, and half-court basketball area may all be accessed thanks to the fence. Georgetown Playfield can be found at 750 S Homer St. in southwest Seattle, WA 98108.

Coast to Coast Turf, Inc., which deployed at the playfield in early June 2022 and mostly finished the project in late August 2022, was given the construction contract by SPR. Modern synthetic turf systems that provide a safe, playable, and long-lasting field were installed in lieu of the deteriorating synthetic grass on the playfield during this project. The project included structural repairs to the curbing, sub-subsurface, and drainage in addition to the removal of the old, “worn out” synthetic grass. SPR is still at the forefront of creating and implementing alternative synthetic grass field design components and materials.

All of SPR’s synthetic turf fields were subjected to condition evaluations in 2018, and the findings of these evaluations guided both our parks resources and turf crews’ immediate maintenance efforts as well as the sequence in which the projects were financed for replacement.
