With the new year well underway, preparations have begun for the nationwide reopening of schools in 2023.

The Department of Basic Education has issued the 2023 school calendar, which begins on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 for inland students and Wednesday, January 18, 2023 for coastal students.

According to BusinessTech, the 2023-2024 school year would consist of 199 school days across four terms, with 32 school breaks and eight national holidays in between.

Teachers will begin the school year on 9 January (inland) and 16 January (coastal) in preparation for the return of students.

Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and North West are inland provinces, while Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Northern Cape, and Western Cape are coastal provinces.
