While inspecting a new home they had just purchased in east Sussex, a couple discovered a genuinely scary secret that was so frightening it was compared to a horror movie set.
During a contractor assessment at a house in Brighton, husband and couple Steven, 54, and Carolyn Sparks, 42, found a hidden chamber behind a bathroom wall that held only a solitary iron bed.
To renovate the home, the couple required a thorough design to be created. It was during this inspection that Steven and the architect discovered the entrance to the hidden chamber.
But the architect didn’t notice the eerie solitary bed that was still there when he walked inside to measure the basement.
The pair didn’t make the terrifying discovery until they went back inside to look around with torches.
Images reveal that the solitary iron bed occupies a portion of the room’s width and is surrounded by exposed pipes, walls, and flooring.
In one area of the space, there were also abandoned boxes heaped high.
Coal was kept in the chamber, which was a component of the original Victorian home. The pictures show an access hole outdoors where the coal would have been dumped down into.
The hallway will be the sole means to reach the basement after renovations, but just to make sure that the piping can be reached in an emergency.
Another surprise was that a horror movie may be made about the room.
According to Carolyn, who recorded the discovery, her daughter was contemplating using the space for a horror movie shoot as part of a college project.
The basement was a potential location for the scene, but the bed was left there since she is terrified of spiders, and the movie was never made.
Carolyn described the peculiar finding, saying, “We found out there was a basement to the structure after we had acquired the home. We didn’t see anything when we saw the home, and it wasn’t included in the agent’s information either.
It’s not exactly a room you’d walk inside and look at in great detail since it’s reached through a little WC.
“Since all we could see were cobwebs, I thought it’d be amusing to shoot and suggested it would seem eerie.”
It was certainly a little strange since we weren’t expecting to discover a single iron bed!
“That circumstance alone, much alone discovering a child’s bed down there, really added to the peculiar circumstance.”
