SA20 auction sold Tristan Stubbs for R9.2m


— Cape Town On Monday, Tristan Stubbs became an instant millionaire at the inaugural SA20 auction.

After a bidding war that featured MI Cape Town, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape paid R9.2 million to get Stubbs, who is 22 years old. In the IPL, the potent right-hander plays for the Mumbai Indians.

In the inaugural T20 international against England in Bristol in July, the former Grey High School prodigy scored 72 off 28 balls, including two fours and eight sixes.

This performance earned Stubbs a spot on the Proteas T20 World Cup squad that would compete in Australia the following month.

Recently, he also played for the Manchester Originals and helped them reach the Hundred competition’s English final.

Rilee Rossouw (R6.9 million) was sold to the Pretoria Capitals, and Marco Jansen was sold to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape (R6.1m).
