The decision to retry the former Manchester United and Wales footballer was made by the Crown Prosecution Service after a three-week trial concluded without a verdict last week.

The 48-year-old former Wales coach is accused of attacking Greville, 38, and her sister Emma, 26, during a drunken altercation at his multimillion-pound mansion in Worsley. He is also accused of three years of controlling and coercive behavior against PR executive Greville, claims he denies.

Giggs issued the following statement today: “After spending over three weeks in court, I am obviously disappointed that a retrial has been ordered. My plea of not guilty stands in connection to all counts. I am convinced that justice will ultimately prevail and that my name will be exonerated of all charges.

“I would want to thank my legal team, my mother, my children, my fiancée Zara, and my closest friends for their support at this time.” In the coming weeks and months, please respect my and my family’s right to privacy. I am aware of the level of interest and scrutiny surrounding this issue.

Former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs appeared before the Manchester Crown Court on August 31.

During a brief hearing today at Manchester Crown Court, the judge granted the prosecution’s request for a retrial. Giggs was absent from the meeting.

Peter Wright QC, the prosecutor, stated to Judge Hilary Manley, “We do seek a retrial for Mr. Giggs.”

The matter has been discussed at a high level within the Crown Prosecution Service, and the complainant’s readiness to testify has also been explored, but this is not conclusive.

They express a willingness to do so. Therefore, we request that you set a date for the retrial of this matter.’

Judge Manley set the trial date for July 31, 2023, the next day available to both the prosecution and defense attorneys, for a trial projected to take three to four weeks.

A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for July 3, as well. The Giggs defense team was silent in court.

Giggs was not required to attend the hearing, but is well aware of his bail restrictions, as stated by Judge Manley.

The charges against Giggs were considered in Manchester Crown Court over the month of August, but after 20 hours of deliberation, the jury was unable to reach a judgment.

Giggs is accused of attacking Kate Greville, 38, and her sister Emma Greville, 26.

However, his next trial will not begin until at least July of next year, so the former Manchester United winger must now endure an agonizing wait to discover his destiny.

The seven women and four men on the jury at Manchester Crown Court were released on August 31 after nearly a full day of deliberation without reaching a result.

Due to illness, one of the twelve jurors was excused from service.

The seventeen-day hearing is believed to have cost the taxpayer more than $100,000.

The earliest provisional retrial date of June 5 was communicated to the court, when the former footballer bowed his head and appeared dejected.

Lynne Giggs, who has always backed her son and watched from the public gallery, placed her head in her hands. She stated outside of court that her son’s life was “on pause.”

During the first trial, Giggs sobbed and broke down in court as he described how spending the night in the cells after his detention was the “worst experience of my life.”

The former manager of Wales was accused of exerting control and coercion over Miss Greville.

On November 1, 2020, when she revealed she was leaving him, Giggs allegedly headbutted her at his property in Worsley, Greater Manchester.

He was also accused of beating her 26-year-old sister, Emma, who was at the residence caring for the couple’s dog.

Giggs was charged with one crime of controlling and coercive conduct and two counts of assault.
