According to reports, one of the most prominent NBA trainers was detained and accused with rape and drugging for intercourse on Friday.

Rob McClanaghan, who has trained NBA stars such as LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, and Carmelo Anthony, according to his website, is accused of drugging and raping a woman, according to a Boston Police Department statement. According to the report, a warrant was issued for the 43-year-old’s arrest, and he was taken into custody in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

The particular date and location of the alleged rape, outside of the central Boston region, are unknown.

McClanaghan, a native of Warwick, Rhode Island, walked onto the Syracuse basketball team and played for three seasons between 1998 and 2001. “Net Work” is the title of his book, which features a foreword by Curry and a prominent review by former Disney CEO Robert Iger. Additionally, McClanaghan offers speaking engagements in which he explains his “Starting 5” philosophy.

McClanaghan’s Instagram, which has over 11,000 followers, features photos of him with some of the league’s biggest stars, such as a photo of him celebrating with Curry after the Warriors won the 2021-22 championship and a photo of him at Kevin Love’s wedding.

The website of McClanaghan features a number of notable endorsements, including those of his former Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Fugitive Unit of the Boston Police Department transported McClanaghan in coordination with the Warwick, Rhode Island Police Department. On Monday, he will be arraigned in Kent County’s Third District Court and charged with evading justice.
