Rian Oberholzer: WP Rugby CEO Ruben Machelm leaves at contract’s conclusion

Rian Oberholzer, administrator of Western Province Rugby, has stated that Ruben Machelm, interim CEO of its professional arm, has departed the organization due to the expiration of his contract.

Machelm was chosen on an interim basis by the previous board when professional rugby needed a leader until October 2021, when Saru intervened and placed WP Rugby into administration.

“We are extremely appreciative of Ruben’s willingness to assist WP Rugby through a very tough time and cherish his contribution to the final achievement of the Stormers winning the inaugural United Rugby Championship earlier this year,” Oberholzer said.

Machelm will take a break from the game to spend time with his family abroad and ponder his future professional and personal goals.

Oberholzer wished Machelm well in the future and reaffirmed that there will be no replacement for him at this time.
