BET Africa has announced that its new daily drama, “Redemption,” will feature a star-studded cast as well as new talent on the rise.
The focus of the most recent original production is the highly esteemed Zikode family.
Acclaimed actor Themba Ndaba portrays renowned pastor Simon Zikode, who inexplicably vanishes, prompting his daughter Faith, portrayed by Kwanele Mthethwa, who is on the verge of an international music career, to hurry to her family’s aid.
Tina Jaxa, recipient of the Africa Movie Academy Award, portrays the pastor’s devoted wife Evelyn Zikode, a traditional matriarch who watches her nest like a hawk.
Sthandiwe Kgoroge, a fan favorite in South Africa, will play the villain in the upcoming drama.
The daily drama will also feature critically praised Safta winner Seputla Sebogodi, Yonda Thomas, Pearl Modiadie, and Sparky Xulu.
Nkone Mamejta and Toka Mtabane will debut their careers on “Redemption” as part of BET Africa’s efforts to promote the industry and provide a platform for indigenous creatives to shine.
“Redemption” will deliver much-anticipated drama, spark passionate discussions on the daily lives of ordinary South Africans, and shed light on the value systems of African communities.
“I shall portray Pastor Simon Zikode, a charismatic and ruthless man who would stop at nothing to achieve his objectives. The atmosphere on set is electric, and we can’t wait to see how that translates to the screen.” Ndaba said.
Burnt Onion and Seriti Films are collaborating on “Redemption,” and Leanne Kumalo, managing director and executive producer of Seriti Films, stated that “the co-production has elevated the film.”
Together, the two companies have contributed significantly to the industry, Kumalo stated.
“Redemption” premieres on television on Monday, September 26 and will air on BET Africa from Monday to Thursday at 6pm, with repeats at 9.30pm (DStv channel 129).
