Rector of Baptist College of Theology urges the Federal Government to urgently address the declining standard of education in the country

Professor Emmanuel Oyemomi, Rector of the Baptist College of Theology in Lagos, has asked the Federal Government to rectify the country’s falling educational standards as soon as possible.

He also requested that the Federal Government fulfil the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) given the crippling effect the ongoing strike is having on students and access to higher education in Nigeria.

Speaking to reporters as part of festivities commemorating the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Baptist College of Theology in Lagos, Oyemomi stated that the call became necessary due to the issues confronting the education sector.

He went on to say that the government has to clean up its act and enhance the country’s educational system.

He added that one significant factor that has continually made it difficult for pupils to access school is the ongoing ASUU strike.

He added that a comprehensive approach should be taken to addressing the flaws in the nation’s educational system.

According to him, “many subjects that could impact the lives of students have been removed from the curriculum and this poses serious threat to effective learning.”

In order to further advance theological education in the nation, Oyemomi, who highlighted that theological education must be given a space to create leaders, stated that the college would celebrate its 25 years of existence by constructing a city campus.
