Reading the Queen’s Committal proclamations was a career highlight, but it went wrong

The Garter King of Arms’ reading out of the proclamations at the Queen’s Committal’s closing moments was a pivotal milestone in his career, but things did not go quite as planned.

David Vines White, the most senior Herald, omitted the important phrase “God Save the King” at the conclusion of the ritual last week at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

And in an unfortunate turn of events, the words were printed on the order of service, which was made available online and circulated throughout the chapel.

Thankfully, King Charles, who was usually attentive to details, kept things quiet.

According to a source in the Royal Household, the congregation as a whole would have shouted “God Save the King” right at the conclusion. Reading from a script is not very difficult. They are furious with him.

Hugo Vickers, a historian, defended him, stating, “I assume the poor fellow was frazzled.” It reminds me of the wretched King with his pen. Give him some leeway, I guess.
