Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller is ejected from game

Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller was ejected from Sunday night’s game against the Kings for spitting in Drew Doughty’s face.

The incident occurred at 16:37 of the first period. It resulted

in a match penalty for Miller, putting the Rangers in an even more difficult situation than they were already in at the start of the game.

During a scrum between the two teams, Miller appeared to intentionally spit in the Kings defenseman’s face.

It is unclear if the act was intentional or not.

The Rangers do not plan to play Braden Schneider or Ryan Carpenter to ensure they remain healthy and able to be sent down to the minors in the coming days.

This move aims to accrue enough cap space to execute a trade for the Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane.

The Rangers were already planning to play with just five blueliners, but now that Miller is out for the remainder of the game, they’ll be limited to just four if they continue to sit Schneider.

The NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman, will automatically review match penalties, so there’s a possibility Miller could be suspended for his behaviour, which could force the Rangers to play with five defensemen again on Wednesday in Philadelphia.

In November 2019, Garnet Hathaway suspended for three games for spitting in a game.
