Queens Park Rangers fires Neil Critchley 2 months after appointing him as manager

Neil Critchley has been sacked by QPR following a 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough that extended their winless run to 11 games. Since winning his first match against Preston North End in December, Critchley lost five and drew five in the league, and was knocked out of the FA Cup by Fleetwood Town.

This poor form saw the team slip to 17th in the Championship, after being sixth following the win over Preston in Critchley’s first game as boss.

The club confirmed the sacking in a statement on their website, with chief executive Lee Hoos admitting that it was hugely disappointing to have to make such a decision so early into Critchley’s tenure.

Critchley’s assistants, Mike Garrity and Ian Brunskill, have also left Loftus Road with immediate effect, and the process of appointing a replacement is already underway.

It is unclear whether a new manager will be at the helm for their next match, against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Former player Gareth Ainsworth is the current bookies favourite to succeed Critchley in the dugout.
