PSG offloads Idrissa Gana Gueye to Everton

Paris — Idrissa Gana Gueye left Paris Saint-Germain and returned to previous club Everton on Thursday, the last day of the transfer window, as the French champions continued to dump undesirable players.

Gueye, 32, has signed a two-year deal with Everton for an unknown sum until June 2024, according to the Premier League club.

According to French media estimates, PSG might get a transfer price of about €10 million (about R172m).

PSG released a statement on their website wishing Idrissa Gueye all the best in the future.

Gueye played three years at Everton before reportedly heading to PSG for £30 million in 2019.

The former Lille and Aston Villa player won two Ligue 1 championships with Paris and also participated in their 2020 Champions League final run.

Gueye made 34 appearances for PSG during the previous season, but he is one of numerous players who have been shut out since Christophe Galtier was hired as coach in July.

PSG has been keen to cut their pay bill in order to create more space for future arrivals while adhering to Uefa’s criteria on financial sustainability.

Gueye’s Senegalese international teammate Abou Diallo, 26, has also left PSG, joining RB Leipzig on loan to return to the Bundesliga.

The German club has the option to make the contract permanent at the conclusion of the current season.

Diallo, who can also play as a left-back, joined PSG in 2019 for €32 million from Borussia Dortmund at the same time as Gueye.

Layvin Kurzawa also left PSG on Thursday, joining Fulham on loan until the conclusion of the current season.

Former Monaco star Kurzawa, 29, has earned 13 international appearances for France but has not featured for PSG since last August.
