Prosecutors demand Leilani Simon’s dental records for her son’s murder

Following accusations that Leilani Simon killed her son Quinton and then threw his corpse in the garbage, prosecutors have sent a subpoena on a nearby dental business seeking Leilani Simon’s records.

Simon, a 22-year-old woman, has been served a subpoena by the State of Georgia requesting her dental records for any procedures she had between October 1 and October 5.

One-year-old Simon’s mother reported him missing on October 5; more than a month later, his remains were discovered in the Chatham County dump.

According to authorities, Simon used an unidentified instrument to beat her son while under the influence of narcotics, causing “severe physical harm” that ultimately resulted in his death. It is said that she had a meeting with her drug dealer just before the murder.

Prosecutors have also subpoenaed the suspected murderer’s mother Billie Jo Howell in addition to the dental records because they want to view Simon’s notebooks or other writings, according to Fox 28 Savannah.

On February 13 in Chatham County Superior Court, Aspen Dental and Howell must both attend for a status check.

Simon previously told authorities that a thief entered into her Savannah house and kidnapped her son. Leilani was detained in November, but the circumstances behind her detention have not been made public by authorities.

Malice murder, felony murder, concealing a death, and providing false statements to authorities regarding Quinton’s death are among the 19 counts on which Leilani is accused.

According to Fox News, Chatham County Police Chief thought Leilani was the culprit from the moment the inquiry got underway after Leilani reported her kid missing from her house on October 5.

Following the discovery of Quinton’s missing corpse in a Georgia dump on November 18 — three days after Leilani was detained — a Chatham County grand jury returned an indictment against Leilani in December.

According to the court documents, Leilani “did knowingly give her son, Quinton Simon, a human being and a kid under the age of 18 years, cruel and severe bodily agony… and the accused did, in the commission of this crime, cause Quinton’s death,” according to WJLC.

Leilani left her Buckhaulter home on October 4 to meet her heroin dealer, and then departed the following morning on October 5 to dispose of his corpse, according to the indictment.

Daniel Youngkin, Leliani’s boyfriend, last seen Quinton on October 5 at 6 a.m. when he was in a pack-n-play.

Leilani reported Quinton missing from her house three hours later. She said that when she awoke at 9.30 am, she discovered her son gone and the entrance to the home open.

District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones said at a press conference in December, “These are the cases that keep us up at night, and these are the instances that demand justice.”

Because to the diligent work of the detectives, agents, and rangers who worked on this investigation, “We have the evidence to pursue these charges.”

Adding that the criminal investigation is still underway, she declined to say what proof the police discovered that resulted in Leilani’s detention.

About two weeks after Quinton vanished, Leilani was seen drinking tequila at Sting Ray’s, a beach bar close to Tybee Island, with her mother Billie Jo Betterton Howell.

According to DailyMail.com, the two spent three hours at the bar downing Patron shots.

Leilani reportedly checked herself into a rehab facility before her arrest and after weeks of media attention.

Howell took the choice to tell the FBI of her daughter’s next action when she told her that she intended to check herself out of the program.

A family member who has been living with Howell since Quinton vanished stated, “Her mother had to make one of the worst choices of her life” and phone the FBI agents to let them know that she was signing herself out.

According to the acquaintance, Howell picked up Leilani from the rehab facility at the FBI’s request and spent her final few free hours with her.

She afterwards drove her daughter to the Savannah FBI office, where she was arrested and accused of killing her son.

Leilani had lost custody of Quinton’s children before to his death for an unspecified cause.

Howell had Quinton in her care before to going missing, although she was away at the time.

Howell was also detained in December on separate contempt of court charges, and she is now being monitored for suicidal thoughts in the Chatham County jail facility after claiming to have “lost everything.”

A week after Quinton was reported missing, Leilani’s two other kids were taken from her care.
