Prince Harry has returned to California after a three-night stay at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, where he was staying during his high-profile phone hacking case against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN).
The 38-year-old prince had traveled to the UK to provide evidence at the High Court, where he filed a lawsuit against the publisher of the Daily Mirror, alleging unlawful information gathering.
Prince Harry’s Visit to the UK and Family Interactions
During his visit to the UK, Prince Harry became the first royal in 132 years to testify in court.
He presented his case in a packed courtroom at the Rolls Building in London.
According to reports, the prince did not have the opportunity to meet his father, King Charles, or his brother, Prince William, during his brief stay.
Instead, he chose to stay in Windsor after arriving on Sunday night and returned to the United States on Wednesday evening.
Future of Frogmore Cottage and Prince Andrew’s Relocation
This visit to Frogmore Cottage might mark Prince Harry’s final stay there, as there are reports that King Charles intends for Prince Andrew to vacate the Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate and downsize to Frogmore Cottage.
Earlier this year, the King evicted Prince Harry and Meghan from Frogmore Cottage shortly after the controversial publication of Harry’s memoir, Spare.
The couple was given until early summer to vacate the property, but Prince Andrew is reportedly reluctant to leave his 30-room mansion.
Prince Harry’s Lawsuit Against MGN and Testimony Highlights
Prince Harry is suing MGN, alleging that journalists at their titles, including the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, and Sunday People, were involved in unethical practices such as phone hacking, “blagging” (gaining information through deception), and employing private investigators for unlawful activities.
His legal team has presented 140 articles published between 1996 and 2010 by MGN titles, with 33 of them being considered in the trial.
MGN denies that the articles in question involved phone hacking or unlawful activities.
During his testimony, Prince Harry focused on articles related to his past relationship with Chelsy Davy and his current relationship with Meghan Markle.
He explained that it was the abuse, intrusion, and hate directed towards him and his wife that compelled him to take legal action.
He also mentioned that the Palace never showed him any articles about himself, and even if they had, he wouldn’t have been allowed to make a complaint.
