President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Rear Admiral Yaminu Ehinomen Musa (retired) as the first National Counter Terrorism Centre Coordinator (NCTC)

Rear Admiral Yaminu Ehinomen Musa (retired) has been appointed as the first Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre by President Muhammadu Buhari (NCTC).

The NCTC is created under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) as the coordinating body for the country’s counter-terrorism and terrorist funding initiatives.

According to the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, the NCTC is also responsible for the coordination of counter-terrorism policies, strategies, plans, and assistance in the fulfilment of the tasks of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

Prior to his promotion, Real Admiral Musa was the Director of the ONSA’s Counter Terrorism Directorate since 2017. He was in charge of reviewing the National Counter Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST), as well as developing the Policy Framework and National Action Plan for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), both of which President Buhari signed into law in 2016 and 2017.

In addition, over the previous three years, the retired Naval senior commander served as Nigeria’s delegate to the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF).

His appointment is effective immediately and will last for a period of five years.
