President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih returns to Malé after concluding his official visit to the Republic of Rwanda

On Monday morning, after concluding his official visit to the Republic of Rwanda, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih flew back to Malé.

The President was in Kigali, Rwanda, for the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) with First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level entourage.

The first Commonwealth leaders’ gathering after the Maldives’ re-admission to the group on February 1, 2020, CHOGM 2022 was held under the theme “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming.”

Delegates from 54 countries attended, looking to improve multilateral collaboration, investigate new possibilities, and solve shared concerns facing future generations. The conference took place from June 20–25, 2022.

The President was present in Kigali for the meeting’s official opening ceremony and executive sessions, where cooperation on a variety of issues, including trade, health, and the environment, was discussed.

In order to improve bilateral ties with those nations, the President had meetings on the sidelines with the prime ministers of Mauritius and India.

President Solih’s participation in CHOGM reaffirms his administration’s dedication to working with other nations to achieve common objectives including democracy, peace, and prosperity. After a two-year delay brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, it was the first CHOGM to be held.

There are 2.5 million people living in the 54 Commonwealth nations, 25 of which are small island developing states.
