Premier League player stabbed in Italy had “pretty serious wound” to back

On Thursday, the English Premier League soccer player Pablo Mari was one of five individuals stabbed by an assailant in a shopping mall in northern Italy.

According to the BBC, one person was killed after a guy began attacking shoppers at a retail mall in Assago, a town near Milan.

Mari, who is on loan at Serie A club Monza from Premier League club Arsenal, sustained minor injuries and was sent to a local hospital, where he is currently recuperating.

Adriano Galliani, the chief executive officer of Monza, informed Sky Italy that Mari sustained a “pretty significant wound” to his back.

“Fortunately, important organs such as the lungs and others were not affected,” he stated.

His life is not in jeopardy, and he should recover rapidly.

Galliani said in a tweet, “Dear Pablo, we stand with you and your family. We love you. Continue fighting. You are a warrior and will soon feel better.”

The parent club of Pablo Mari, Arsenal, issued the following statement: “We are all devastated to hear the terrible news about the stabbing in Italy, which has sent several individuals to the hospital, including our on-loan central defender Pablo Mari.

“We’ve been in contact with Pablo’s agent, who informed us that he is in the hospital but is not gravely injured.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Pablo and the other victims of this terrible act.”

The Athletic claimed on Thursday that local police had caught the suspected perpetrator.

Mari, 29 years old, joined Arsenal from Flamengo in January 2020. He has only appeared 19 games for Arsenal and has spent the majority of 2022 on loan, first with Udinese and then with Monza.
