Police officer David Carrick, a serial sex offender, is now facing a life sentence for 12 ‘violent and savage’ sex assaults on women.

Carrick, a member of the Met since 2001 before joining the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command as an armed officer in 2009, entered a plea of guilty to 49 offences, including 24 counts of rape.

Carrick, 48, of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, is scheduled to receive a sentence from Mrs. Justice Cheema-Grubb on Tuesday at Southwark Crown Court.

In court yesterday, details of some of his horrifying acts were revealed, including how he emailed one of his victims a picture of himself holding a pistol issued to the police along with the message, “Remember I am the boss.”

One of Carrick’s victims said she felt she had “encountered evil” after being repeatedly raped by him, who held a black revolver to her head and wrapped his hands around her neck. His victims courageously described the agony they had been put through in court on Monday.

In an effort to lure the victim back to his London apartment, the serial rapist had claimed to her, “I am the safest person you can be around, I’m a police officer.”

Another said that she was certain that if she reported him, no one would believe her since he served as a parliamentary and diplomatic security officer and that “he was the law, he was the police, and he owned me.”

Images of a small cabinet that Carrick confined one of the women in as punishment as well as a whip he used on the victim were made public for the first time.

Over a 17-year span, from 2003 to 2020, the former firearms officer also assaulted people while in custody and used his police baton as a weapon.

Carrick committed all of his offenses while working for the police; during this time, he guarded important locations including embassies and the Houses of Parliament and took training courses, including one on domestic violence in 2005.

The disgraced PC used his “power and control” to prevent his victims from fleeing or reporting him, the court heard on the opening day of his sentence hearing on Monday.

The’systematic’ offenses, according to prosecutor Tom Little KC, were a ‘record of severe and cruel sexual offenses.

When a woman disclosed that she had been raped by a police officer, the A&E nurse allegedly warned her that “the law prefer to defend their own.”

Other women said that after what Carrick had done to them, they no longer trusted the police and were afraid that if they reported him, they wouldn’t be believed.

The search results for pornography on Carrick’s electronic devices, according to Mr. Little, included phrases like “intense” and “traumatic.”

24 counts of rape, 9 counts of sexual assault, 5 counts of assault by penetration, 3 counts of coercive and controlling behavior, 3 counts of false imprisonment, 2 counts of attempted rape, 1 count of attempted sexual assault by penetration, 1 count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and 1 count of indecent assault are among the 49 charges Carrick admitted to.

Some of the charges include several incidents, or at least 85 distinct offenses, including at least 71 sexual offenses and 48 rapes.

In September 2020, the Crown Prosecution Service decided that it would not be in the public interest to go on with a trial for a second count of rape involving a 13th lady, whose claim started the inquiry. He vehemently rejected this charge.

Because he hadn’t murdered anybody and had admitted guilt, Mr. Little argued the case didn’t justify a lifetime sentence and instead advocated for a life sentence with a set minimum period.

A life sentence would probably “get him near to, if not to, the conclusion of his natural life,” according to the defense attorney, Alisdair Williamson KC, who also claimed that Carrick “accepts totally responsibility for what he has done.”

“He cannot plead for compassion and he will not ask for mercy,” he said before the court.

After it turned out that Carrick was reported to the police for nine incidents between 2000 and 2021, all but one of which involved his behavior toward women, including allegations of rape, domestic violence, and harassment, the Met was forced to apologize and acknowledge that Carrick should have been stopped sooner.

Police chiefs in England and Wales have subsequently been requested to have all officers vetted against national police databases by the end of March. Carrick did not face any criminal consequences or disciplinary findings.

Last month, after pleading guilty and being identified as one of the nation’s most frequent sex offenders, he was eventually fired from the force.

The independent investigation into Sarah Everard’s death, who was raped and strangled by then-serving Met officer Wayne Couzens in March 2021, is expected to include Carrick’s crimes.
