Police respond to a reported shooting in a city near Los Angeles

MONTEREY PARK, CA — Saturday night, east of Los Angeles, dozens of police officers responded to reports of a shooting that occurred following a massive Lunar New Year celebration.

Officials supplied little details regarding the incident in Monterey Park, a city of around 60,000 people with a large Asian population located approximately 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Thousands of people attended the annual celebration earlier in the day.

The proprietor of the Clam House seafood BBQ restaurant, Seung Won Choi, told the Los Angeles Times that three individuals came into his establishment and instructed him to lock the door.

People also informed Choi that there was an assailant with a machine gun and many rounds of ammo so that he could reload. Choi stated that he believes the shooting occurred in a nightclub.

According to the newspaper, the gunshot occurred after 10 p.m.

The two-day extravaganza, one of the greatest Lunar New Year celebrations in Southern California, began on Saturday.
