Police “kept the family in the dark” about missing Princeton student

On the sixth day of their search, the brother of a missing Princeton student complains that police have “kept the family in the dark.”

Universe Ewunetie accompanied authorities in their search for his 20-year-old sister, Misrach Ewunetie, who vanished from the Princeton University campus in the middle of the night.

Universe tells CNN that there are no regular updates or interactions with the organization. We are being kept in the dark.

Misrach was last seen on October 14 at approximately 3 a.m. in the vicinity of her residence, Scully Hall. The last time her smartphone was detected was seven miles away from school on Sunday morning.

The ping was placed around Penn’s neck in an apartment building in New Jersey. Despite utilizing canines to scour the neighborhood, university police have been unable to access any properties due to a lack of search warrants.

The police advised Universe that the investigation would require time.

This is what we are lacking, he said. We are running out of time.

The vice president for campus life at Princeton, Rochelle Calhoun, informed students on Wednesday that she had discussed the probe with the head of the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Calhoun says, “Since Sunday, DPS has been vigorously assisting with the Prosecutor’s Office and state and local police forces in their search for Misrach.”

The university earlier claimed that DPS has sent a helicopter, drones, and watercraft in the search for Misrach, who is 5-foot-4 with black hair, brown eyes, pale skin, and around 165 pounds.

Sunday evening, after not hearing from her for several days, her relatives reported her missing. DPS conducted a following wellness check at her Scully Hall unit.

All calls to her cell phone now go directly to voicemail after the final ring at the New Jersey building.

The circumstance is a “nightmare from which I cannot awaken,” said Universe to The Sun.

On October 13, Misrach was apparently assisting at the Terrace Club, one of Princeton’s eleven exclusive dining clubs.

Terrace Club is one of Princeton’s non-exclusive clubs, requiring members to only sign up for membership, and is unconnected with the university. The clubs are for upperclassmen to enjoy lunch and participate in a variety of activities.

Other clubs need potential members to submit an application for membership.

She was performing cleaning services as a club member on “duty” during a live musical performance.

Raavi and Jackie Marchal were performing that night, according to the club’s Instagram page.

Misrach, along with other members on duty, left for the evening when the club closed and all duties were fulfilled.

After the event, she returned to her hostel about 3 a.m., according to her brother. Her housemates claimed to have seen her at 3 a.m. Then, a second roommate of hers reported that she had not seen her since 4 a.m., and no one has seen her since then.

They did not look for her since they believed she had returned home.

According to Universe, the first year they did not attend college due to the virus was difficult for her and many others.

This year, though, she has been seeking to make new friends by joining the Terrace Club.

In 2020, Ewunetie graduated from the Minds Matter Cleveland program, which aids high-achieving, low-income children. Sara Elagad, the executive director of the NGO, told CNN that her former student’s disappearance was exceedingly atypical.

Elagad commented, “It is completely out of character for her to intentionally lose contact with her family or vanish.” We are aiding her family as they work with law enforcement to safely locate her.

According to Planet Princeton, Ewunetie was the valedictorian of her high school and a sociology major with a computer science minor at Princeton.

Her Ethiopian-born family, who have resided in Ohio since 2008 but are originally from Ethiopia, find her disappearance all the more concerning because she missed a citizenship application meeting the next day.

Universe added, “She is the crown jewel of the family, [my parents’] only and youngest daughter.” She is held in high regard.

The Daily Princetonian adds that school authorities say she has not been in contact with her family or friends for several days and that they issued a “Tiger Alert” at roughly 9:20 p.m. on Monday to inform the school community that she is missing.

Please notify the school’s Department of Public Safety at (609) 258-1000 or make an anonymous tip online if you have any information about her whereabouts.
