Police investigating murder after burnt, stabbed body found along road

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said officers received and attended to a complaint on the R712 near Hatsoanyane Farm on Wednesday.

The body reportedly belongs to an unknown African person believed to be around 32 years of age.

Mophiring said the deceased had multiple stab wounds to the face and upper body and was partly burnt.

A murder case has been opened for investigation by the Phuthaditjhaba police station.

CHILDREN MAKE GRISLY DISCOVERY

In an unrelated incident, the Eastern Cape police are requesting the public help to identify the remains of a dead person whose identity is unknown.

A group of children riding their bicycles in a bushy area near Booysens Park discovered the body on 27 April.

“Police suspect that the body may have been transported in a wheelie bin and burned. The race or sex of the person is unknown as the person was burned beyond recognition,” said SAPS spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

The Bethelsdorp police station is investigating a murder case.
