Police are looking for a lady with an American accent after one of Edinburgh’s old gravestones was stolen.
The “irreplaceable” gravestone was removed from Greyfriars Kirk in Candlemaker Row on Sunday, August 21, between 10.30 am and 4.30 pm.
Greyfriar’s Bobby, a Skye terrier who spent 14 years sitting on his master’s grave, made the cemetery renowned. It subsequently served as motivation for J.K. Rowling, who gave various characters the names of people buried in the cemetery from the 16th century.
“We are seeking for information after the damage and theft of a marble facing removed from the headstone,” police sergeant Charlotte Crerar said.
“We want to find a lady who was observed in the neighborhood,” said the police.

She is described as being around 5 feet 6 inches tall, having red or ginger hair, and having a slender body, according to Police Scotland.
She is described as being thin, around 5 feet 6 inches tall, with red or ginger hair.
She had an American accent and was dressed in a striped purple and white shirt, black trousers, lime green socks, and trainers.
Anyone with information is requested to call Police Scotland on 101 and reference incident 0834 of Thursday, August 25, 2022. The headstone is of historical value and cannot be replaced.
