The Condemnation of Pipeline Vandalism in Lagos by IPMAN, Ejigbo Satellite Depot
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Ejigbo Satellite Depot, has expressed strong disapproval of the ongoing pipeline vandalism occurring in Lagos.
Akin Akinrinade, the Chairman of IPMAN at the Ejigbo Satellite Depot, lamented the adverse impact of the constant vandalism of the pipelines owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on the supply of petrol to Lagos and the southwest region.
This reaction comes in response to the continuous incidents of pipeline vandalism taking place in Idimu, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos.
Recent Pipeline Vandalism Incident in Idimu
The most recent act of pipeline vandalism occurred in front of Good Luck Estate in Idimu, carried out by criminals targeting the System 2B pipeline.
Akinrinade, speaking to the press on Sunday, conveyed the distress of IPMAN Satellite Depot in announcing the vandalization of the NNPCL pipeline in Idimu, Alimosho LCDA, Lagos State.
He emphasized that this persistent vandalism poses a significant setback to the joint efforts of IPMAN and NNPCL to ensure the uninterrupted supply of petrol to Lagos and the entire Southwest region of Nigeria.
Details of the Vandalism Incident
Akinrinade revealed that during the incident, a 33,000-liter truck bearing registration number JND 162 XA, owned by a marketer named R. A. Oluwakemi and loaded at Ibadan depot, was apprehended at the scene of petrol scooping in Idimu.
The truck, painted in blue and white, was seized at the location where the vandalism took place.
The IPMAN Chairman expressed concern over such acts of sabotage and their negative impact on the petroleum supply chain.
Appeal for Increased Surveillance and Collaboration
Akinrinade called on the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, and the Area Commander, Area “M,” in Idimu to enhance surveillance measures to curb pipeline vandalism.
He commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Navy for their efforts in combating this issue.
Furthermore, Akinrinade emphasized that the Ejigbo Satellite Depot is ready to assist security agencies in their mission to put an end to pipeline vandalism.
The depot has implemented a system that discourages vandalism and encourages collaboration among security agents stationed near the pipeline network to increase patrolling in the area.
