Pink’s recent concert at Hyde Park took an unexpected turn when a fan threw a bag containing her mother’s ashes onto the stage while she was performing the song “Just Like A Pill.”
The 43-year-old singer noticed the plastic bag landing near her feet and appeared confused. She looked out to someone in the crowd and asked if the bag belonged to them, questioning, “Wait, this is your mum?”
Admitting her mixed feelings about the incident, the popstar placed the bag near a speaker at the edge of the stage and resumed her performance.
The incident quickly gained attention on social media after concert-goers uploaded footage, which was later analyzed by a body language expert.
Judi James, an author and behavior expert, shared her observations with the Mirror regarding Pink’s response to receiving the bag.
According to James, Pink made a “lovely” gesture to the fan at the end of the clip.
She explained, “Pink smiles sheepishly before launching back into her song but her next gesture could have been seen as touching for the fan.”
James also commended Pink for her handling of the encounter.
Regarding Pink’s initial reaction upon seeing the bag, James suggested that laughter or horror might have been inappropriate, considering the possibility of someone in the audience mourning their loss.
However, she noted that Pink’s maturity as a performer was evident during the moment of confusion.
Analyzing Pink’s subsequent actions, James observed that her curiosity quickly turned to confusion.
She described Pink’s expression as resembling a head teacher confiscating someone’s belongings.
Referring to Pink’s reaction during the interaction, James stated, “[It was] an expression of shocked disbelief but happily not open rejection or disgust.
Her mouth falls open in surprise, and her pose appears frozen.
She cautiously places the bag down again with a small, nervous fiddling movement of her fingers.”
Furthermore, James emphasized the importance of Pink’s body language in preventing such incidents from becoming a trend among concert-goers.
She mentioned recent occurrences, such as a marriage proposal at Elton John’s Glastonbury performance and a phone being thrown at Bebe Rexha.
James warned that encouraging show-stopping actions or events might not be ideal for future performances, to avoid setting a trend.
