PGCPD seizes a handgun from a 13 years old student at Isaac J. Gourdine Middle School in Fort Washington

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, a 13-year-old student at Isaac J. Gourdine Middle School in Fort Washington, Maryland was arrested after bringing a loaded handgun to school on Tuesday morning.

Officers received a call about the student at 8.15 a.m., according to PGPD, before the school was locked down.

Officers from the PGPD had the student in custody and the gun recovered by 8.50 a.m.

According to ABC7, the student was discovered in a classroom with a loaded P80 semi-automatic handgun in his waistband that held 16 rounds, including one in the chamber.

P80s are known as “ghost guns” because they can be built at home and often lack serial numbers, making them difficult to track.

According to ABC7’s Brad Bell, the student showed the gun to other students, who then reported it to school security staff.

NBC Washington’s Prince George’s County bureau chief Tracee Wilkins previously reported that the gun was an automatic weapon, but subsequent reporting contradicted that claim.

There were no initial reports of a struggle during the arrest of the student, and no injuries have been reported.

The incident is still being investigated, but there are no plans for a press conference at this time.

They are not also releasing information about the student’s age or identity at this time.
