After hearing that their spaniel, Maisie, had been hit by a car, the family lost one dog and later buried another during the five-day agony. Not until Maisie was located did they realize their error.

Codie Hutton, age 26, was travelling through Woodbridge, Suffolk on November 5 when she decided to give her dog Maisie a comfort break.

As Maisie opened the door to put her nine-year-old springer spaniel on a leash, a firework suddenly exploded, causing her to flee.

She has just fled. Immediate exit from the vehicle,’ stated Miss Hutton. On Monday morning, they received the call they had been dreading - a flattened body had been found. 'We were convinced from the tail and markings on the legs that it was her,' said Miss Hutton

“Because it was still early, I did not anticipate any fireworks, and I only let her out for a brief walk on a leash.

‘In an instant, she was gone.’

Within three hours, Miss Hutton had assembled a search team to look for the dog.

Miss Hutton stated, “Someone witnessed her get hit by a car, which was a gift in disguise since she wasn’t wounded and it changed her trajectory away from the A12.”

As the night drew to a close, however, the gang was unable to locate the animal, leaving Miss Hutton exceedingly concerned about her beloved dog.

Miss Hutton and her father opted to camp in the last field where Maisie had been spotted after a long day of searching on Sunday.

On Monday morning, they received the dreaded phone call that a decomposed body had been discovered.

The family buried the dog at their residence in Crowfield.

They wrapped the body with a photograph of Maisie and Miss Hutton’s three-year-old son Taylen.

I told Taylen that she was now a star in dog heaven. She stated that it was a catastrophe.

Incredulous, the family received a call on Wednesday morning stating that someone had spotted Maisie.

Due to the vet’s uncertainty as to whether or not Maisie’s body was that of a fox, the search had resumed in the background.

Thursday afternoon, after five days, a couple captured a dog near Wickham Market Primary School.

Miss Hutton raced to the scene where she observed Maisie being held by her father.

Incredulous, the family received a call on Wednesday morning stating that someone had spotted Maisie.

Maisie traveled more than 17 miles over the course of five days included spotted in Melton, Bredfield, Helmingham, and Wickham Market.

Maisie was unable to conceal her enthusiasm as she wiggled and whimpered in anticipation of being reunited with her beloved owner.

I believed she was gone. I believed I would never see her again. She stated, “I still couldn’t believe that was my Maisie.”

Taylen, age 3, was reunited with her shortly thereafter and attempted to put his Captain America onesie on her to keep her warm.

Maisie, although being exhausted and hungry, escaped the ordeal with only a little infection and minimal damage.
