A family who believed that their pet dog had been struck by a car and killed learned nearly a week later that they had buried the wrong dog.
After hearing that their spaniel, Maisie, had been hit by a car, the family lost one dog and later buried another during the five-day agony. Not until Maisie was located did they realize their error.
Codie Hutton, age 26, was travelling through Woodbridge, Suffolk on November 5 when she decided to give her dog Maisie a comfort break.

“Because it was still early, I did not anticipate any fireworks, and I only let her out for a brief walk on a leash.
‘In an instant, she was gone.’
Within three hours, Miss Hutton had assembled a search team to look for the dog.
Miss Hutton stated, “Someone witnessed her get hit by a car, which was a gift in disguise since she wasn’t wounded and it changed her trajectory away from the A12.”
As the night drew to a close, however, the gang was unable to locate the animal, leaving Miss Hutton exceedingly concerned about her beloved dog.
Miss Hutton and her father opted to camp in the last field where Maisie had been spotted after a long day of searching on Sunday.

“A microchip could not be located, but we accepted her passing and made peace with it.”
The family buried the dog at their residence in Crowfield.
They wrapped the body with a photograph of Maisie and Miss Hutton’s three-year-old son Taylen.

Maisie was unable to conceal her enthusiasm as she wiggled and whimpered in anticipation of being reunited with her beloved owner.
I believed she was gone. I believed I would never see her again. She stated, “I still couldn’t believe that was my Maisie.”
Taylen, age 3, was reunited with her shortly thereafter and attempted to put his Captain America onesie on her to keep her warm.
Maisie, although being exhausted and hungry, escaped the ordeal with only a little infection and minimal damage.
