Permanent load shedding at stages 2 and 3 is an admission of failure

Permanent load shedding at stages 2 and 3 is an admission of failure

DA Kevin Mileham, the Shadow Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, says that Eskom’s announcement today that South Africa will be placed on permanent stage 2 or 3 load shedding for the next two years is the ANC government and Eskom’s clearest admission yet that they have failed to solve the electricity crisis.

“This unprecedented action by Eskom will continue to burden the economy and our citizens. In essence, South Africans are being forced to go without energy for four hours per day while paying exorbitant electricity rates that will increase by 33.77 percent over the next 16 months.”

“Even more aggravating is the fact that, for the past week, the ANC administration has been giving the nation blatant lies to the effect that load shedding will be a thing of the past. First, Gwede Mantashe stated that he might halt load shedding between six to twelve months, and later Enoch Godongwana stated that power outages will end within twelve to eighteen months.
“Eskom has debunked these claims and placed the country on permanent load shedding for two years with no guarantees thereafter,” he reminded the public.

“Architects of state capture who were responsible for the wholesale looting and subsequent collapse of Eskom remain free while South Africans are forced to endure permanent load-shedding,” criticized MP Mileham.

He went on to explain that the DA rejects this unrelenting punishment of ordinary individuals, which is precisely why a National Day of Action has been established for Wednesday. We will march to Luthuli House to protest ANC load shedding and exorbitant, unfair hikes in electricity prices. It is time for the return of power to the people!”

This is an evolving narrative.
