This level of difficulty in pronouncing a child’s name is excessive.
One mother complained last month on the Mumsnet website that her daughters’ names, Lois and Beatrix, are often misspelled.
The enraged father said that “traditional” names, or so they felt, are difficult to mispronounce. Although the correct pronunciations are “Bee-uh-trix” and “Lo-iss,” they are sometimes mispronounced as “Beet-rix” and “Loyce,” which rhymes with “voice.”
The parent commented on a forum posting, followed by a vomit emoji, “I usually let the first go as ‘close enough’ is OK, but I can’t resist correcting ‘Loyce’.”
“Beatrix is frequently referred to as ‘Beatrice,’ which is an acceptable error that we anticipated, but it’s frustrating when family members do it, and Lois is occasionally misheard as ‘Lewis,’ causing people to assume she is a guy. However, I am not bothered by any of these activities when the general population engages in them “The irate parent stated.
