Sunday in southern Pakistan, a bus plunged into a ravine and caught fire, killing 40 people, according to a government official.

The bus was carrying 44 passengers from Quetta, Balochistan, to Karachi, Sindh province, a nearby province. The incident occurred close to the town of Bela in the Lasbela district.

The assistant commissioner in Bela, Hamza Anjum Nadeem, stated that the bodies of 40 individuals, including women and children, were retrieved. Four passengers with injuries were rescued.

“The accident occurred owing to excessive speed, and the bus collided with a bridge pillar. “As soon as it fell into the ravine, it caught fire,” he claimed.

Nadeem stated that the bodies were irretrievably burnt and were being brought to Karachi for DNA analysis. After identification, the victims’ family will be given the bodies.

The rescue effort was conducted by firefighters and employees from the Lasbela Welfare Trust and the Edhi Welfare Foundation.

Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, the chief minister of Balochistan, expressed his sadness for the loss of life and instructed officials to give the injured with the most advanced medical care.

The majority of traffic accidents in Pakistan are caused by violations of traffic laws, resulting in thousands of annual fatalities.
