Over 2,000 Australians go naked to raise awareness about skin cancer

Approximately 2,500 people in Australia stripped naked for a photo to raise awareness about skin cancer.

Photographer Spencer Tunick, known for his nude group pictures in public locations, captured the images early Saturday morning on Bondi Beach in Sydney.

“We have a chance to promote awareness about skin checks, and I’m honored… to come here, create my work, and just appreciate the body and protection,” said Tunick.

For this project, the New York-based photographer collaborated with the Australian organization Skin Check Champions. The organization is dedicated to early detection and operates mobile skin check clinics.

They seek to shine attention on the dangers of melanoma, the fourth most frequent disease in Australia.

The federal government of Australia expects that 17,756 new cases of skin cancer will be detected in the country this year, and that 1,281 Australians will succumb to the disease.
