Orlando Pirates to win multiple Top CAF Awards

When the 2022 CAF Awards are held in July, Orlando Pirates will be well-represented.

The Buccaneers had a successful season in 2021–2022, and they were among the best teams in the continent. The First Team’s remarkable CAF Confederation run, during which they advanced to the competition’s finals for the second time in history, was the pinnacle of their campaign.

The Club has been nominated for the Men’s Club of the Year award together with 10 other of the greatest names in African football as a consequence of their achievements.

The eventual Confed Cup champions, RS Berkane, are up against them in the category, along with Wydad Athletic Club, Al Ahly, and the other teams who advanced to the CAF Champions League final.

Some of the technical team members and squad members who made significant contributions to Pirates’ success in the tournament are also nominated for individual honors.

Mandla Ncikazi has been nominated for Men’s Coach of the Year. She served as First Team Coach during the just finished season. He will compete for the coveted honor against people like his countryman Pitso Mosimane, Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations champion coach Aliou Cisse, and former Egypt head coach Carlos Queiroz.

Bandile Shandu and Thembinkosi Lorch, two of his teammates who stood out during the Confed Cup and were nominated for the Men’s Interclub Player of the Year award, are also included on the list of nominees.

Shandu finished with four goals and an assist to rank among the competition’s top scorers. Lorch was also in outstanding form the entire time, but is best remembered for scoring the late equalizer that forced the championship game into a penalty shootout.

Votes from the captains and coaches of the Member Associations, a few journalists, the CAF Technical Study Group, and CAF Legends will determine the winners of the awards in each category.

The occasion is slated to occur in Morocco on Thursday, July 21.
